Joash (a
King of Israel) went to Elisha (the prophet) to seek the Lord’s help overcoming
an enemy. Elisha told Joash to take arrows and strike the ground, but after 3 strikes,
Joash stopped. Elisha then told him that Israel would now only win 3 battles.
Elisha then said if he had struck 5 or 6 times though, he would have defeated
the enemy until they were destroyed.
- God wanted to see Joash’s passion and determination for
salvation; he wanted him to keep striking. But Joash stopped short, and didn’t allow himself to complete that
which the Lord had called him. Keep shooting your arrows until you’ve overcome!
